Praxis / « Edamame »

On this five minute video, you will see Praxis (Delia Bajo and Brainard Carey) filming themselves making paint for a canvas. Through a series of daily actions presented in a step by step process, you will see a transformation of elements ; food into paint through the collaborative efforts of three people.

The transfiguration that is achieved in this video makes it clear that man has the ability to change what is dead and hopeless into something full of life and color.

…Ich wollte ein Zeichensystem darstellen, ein System von irgendetwas, d.h. ich wußte vorher nicht, was sich als Zeichen anbieten würde, Wiederholungen, wie das Heben einer Zigarette oder des Glases zum Beispiel, das aus dem Fenster schauen etc. später dann im Film sichtbar markiert mit Farben und Punkten beispielsweise.

…I wanted to create a discription of a system of signs, a system of something. I was not sure what would turn out to be a sign, I figured there would be some repetitive behavior such as lifting a cigarette or glass, looking out the window, and the like. Each instance of a sign was later marked by colors and dots, for example.
