The "antipode" is by definition located exactly on the other side of the globe; at the other end of a straight line going directly through the center of the Earth.

Antipodes Islands, (latitude 49°40’ south and longitude 178°50’ east) are an isolated group of small islands in the south Pacific Ocean. The Antipodes were discovered in 1800 by Captain Waterhouse of the British vessel Reliance.

According to the “Encarta World Atlas” the islands were named Antipodes because they are located on the globe diametrically opposite to the United Kingdom.

According to my calculation the Antipode of the Antipodes Islands is located in France more precisely in Haute Normandy (latitude 49°40’ north and longitude 1°10’ west) Vadim Fishkin
